Oh for the Love of Broomball
Well last night was Broomball night with Every Nation's group. It was AWESOME! Picture this: 4 teams, 25 people/team, 3 minute periods, on an ice rink while wearing running shoes, and chasing down a hard plastic ball with plastic broom-sticks. We have been anticipating this night for weeks, so we had lots of time to prepare......wink-wink. Being of a competitive nature, we wanted to be able to have the upper hand. So, we got out out running shoes, our trusty stapler and hockey jerseys. We began adding strategically placed (our version of )metal cleats to the bottom of our shoes with the stapler. Much to our delight it did give us a bit of an advantage over the other players....except when we slid our shoes sideways...it was much more like a pair of skates....not so good. Injuries (of fellow players) included two sprained ankles, a bashed knee, broken glasses, and multiple sticks to the face. Fortunately no one died. Ben scored a goal with cousin Dave's assistance and Johanna flailed around, luckily taking out players of the opposite team in the process and stopping a few offensive moves. It was fun to have the chance to get to know many more people in the process....hopefully our first impressions aren't linked to painful memories.
The rest of our weekend consists of homework, homework...and......just a little more homework...BLAH. Maybe we can squeeze in a hike in Stanley Park. And we are now signing off as the 2nd-place champs of the second annual Broomball Championships of the World. Adios friends...... Ben and Johanna
